Class Acts Chicago

I am honored to have been selected as a BlackBook Class Act, and am really proud to see my work in the non-profit community being recognized. Join me in celebrating this Tuesday, October 16th at Untitled. The event goes from 8p-11p and I’m guessing there will be some Ketel One cocktails for you to try ;)

The bartender that I had ‘a drink with’ (the Orange Whip 2.0) in our video is a really good guy too, so now you have three reasons to come out (his delicious drink, your third reason to attend, is sure to be featured).

What? BlackBook Magazine presents Chicago’s Class Acts
Where? Untitled, 111 W Kinzie, Chicago, IL 60654
When? 8pm – 11pm

A Day at the Races

If you know me really well, you may have heard of my idea to match up every student in the entire Chicago Public School system with a mentor that will stick with them until they graduate college. I know, I know, that would be a lot of work… but no one ever told me not to think so ‘big’ (plus, I wouldn’t listen anyway). There are groups that are working toward this goal and vision right now and one of the best out there is the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS). They are making a measurable impact in our community, just look at the power of having a Big Brother or Big Sister! Kids mentored by BBBS involved are:

  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school
  • 37% less likely to skip a class
  • more confident of their performance in schoolwork
  • one-third less likely to hit someone
  • getting along better with their families

So this Saturday at 2pm, in support of this cause, we’re hosting a fun Kentucky Derby themed event that will include plenty of Mint Juleps, Derby-tinis, wine, beer and southern cuisine (the food is by ZED451, so your know it will be amazing!!!!).

We’ll have sweet things to bid on too… like hotel get aways, spa packages and sports paraphernalia — and wear your finest Derby hat!

Tickets are $75 per person or $250 for a group of four. Purchase yours at http://2011derbyday.kintera.org or at the door.

All proceeds further the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago and help provide at-risk Chicago youth with caring adult mentors.

Zed451 is located at 739 N Clark and event runs from 2:00 to 5:30pm.

Questions? Either contact me or Jessica Rechtien at rechtien@bbbschgo.org or 312.207.5604. See you there!
